The Connecticut Lottery
The Connecticut Lottery is one of the longest running lotteries in the nation. State Representative John A. “Tony" Miscikoski of Torriginton created the lottery 30 years ago. He believed a state run lottery would provide significant funding to the residents of Connecticut.
It took close to 10 years before his dream of the lottery became a reality. When it was put to vote in 1971 it was passed with a 65% approval rate. Since then the CT Lottery has provided over $284 million to help with state programs and publicly funded services. These funds are donated to the General Fund which supports not just public health projects but local libraries, education, transportation and more.
The first lottery went on sale February 15th 1972. The game “The Lottery” was the only choice, and games cost just $0.50 a ticket. The top prize awarded was $5000. Doesn't seem like much now, but at the time that was a significant prize.
Since then the Connecticut Lottery has expanded that game and now offers 4 online games. They also offer a wide selection of scratch tickets.
