The Iowa Lottery
All About the Iowa Lottery
The Iowa Lottery began in 1985 with an approval rate of 60% with tickets going on sale on August 22, 1985. The first game released was the instant scratch ticket called the “Scratch, Match and Win”. To mark the occasion the state celebrated the Iowa Lottery at the State Fair that year.
The first game sold by the Iowa Lottery was an instant-scratch product called “Scratch, Match and Win” and players bought more than 6.4 million tickets during the first week of play.
Since then the Iowa Lottery has adopted various online games, scratch tickets and pull tabs which help with state programs. Today the Iowa lottery employs 117 people, and offers 2,600 locations for people to purchase tickets. They have contributed over $1 billion dollars to state projects and publicly funded programs during their last 20+ years in service. The players have profited as well, with over $2 billion dollars in prizes being disbursed among them.
The Iowa Lottery currently offers five online games including the PowerBall along with scratch and win tickets and pull tabs.
