The Maryland Lottery
In the 2007 fiscal year, the Maryland lottery produced a record-breaking $1.577 billion in sales. A total of $919 million was paid out to lucky players (including $297.5 from scratch-off tickets) in that same span of time. Retailers were also happy, as they received over $112 million in commissions.
But the state of Maryland also benefits from the lottery. In 2007, for example, $494 million in revenue was generated to the state. This revenue will be used to fund such services as education, public safety, public health and environmental issues.

If you like horse racing, but don’t want to have to drive all the way to a race track, Racetrax is the perfect game for you. A computer-animated game, Racetrax offers prizes and payouts very similar to live horse betting.
To play, select horses from a field of 12 in each race. You’ll need to select your type of bet, your winning horse, the amount of the bet and the number of races that you’ll be playing. Just like at the track, you can bet on a horse to win, show, win/show, or you can also bet on a trifecta or quinella.
The game plays out on a television screen and can be found at over 1,500 retailers across the state of Maryland. Bowling alleys, restaurants and bars - you can find Racetrax in all of these.
Keno from the Maryland Lottery
In Keno, you select up to 10 numbers from a field ranging from 1 to 80. 20 winning numbers are chosen at random, and the more you match then the more you’ll win.
But there are a number of betting options available. You can win by matching some, all or none of the numbers. Each drawing gives you a chance to win $100,000, and various betting options can even increase that all the way up to $1 million.
Keno can be found at taverns, bowling alleys and restaurants. There’s a drawing every 4 minutes, so there are plenty of opportunities to win.
Bonus Match 5
Each Bonus Match 5 playslip has 9 game boards lettered A through I. You can play one board for $1, 3 boards for $2, 4 boards for $3, 6 boards for $4, 7 boards for $5 and 9 boards for $6.
When the drawing occurs, 5 winning numbers are drawn ranging from $1 to $39. A bonus ball is then drawn from the remaining 34 numbers (this ball gives you even more chances to win).
On each board that you wish to play, select 5 numbers. You may play the same numbers up to 7 drawings in a row. You may also play a drawing in the future by marking the date and the Advance Play column.
To win, you need to match 3, 4 or 5 of the numbers drawn. If you match the bonus ball, then you only need to match 4, 3 or 2 of your original numbers to win.
Drawings take place every evening at 7:56 pm, Monday through Saturday. There’s also a drawing on Sunday at 8:10 pm.
